I first heard about yarn bombing a few days ago and immediately hurried on off to Jesus Green to view it in action.
The plane tree avenue on Jesus Green has been transformed. On Saturday, 15 December, the mysterious Cambridge guerrilla knitter The Willow Wanderer and her team snuck out in the early hours and clothed the avenue's 16 lamp posts with woollen socks.
Walk along the avenue (from the red dot on the map to the toilets) and this is what you will see:
What is yarn bombing? It is a kind of street art, made of fibre. Also known as 'guerrilla knitting', 'yarn storm' or 'craft activism'.
To me, this combination is amusing:

225 knitted and crocheted 10-inch / 25-cm squares. Nice and woolly to the touch and, on my own visit, dewy-damp, like humid cardigans.
I'm not overly fond of the colour schemes myself: too garish, too circus-like. But the close-up views can be lovely:
